Description
Many obstacles prevent us from seeing God?s face today. But if we look in faith, you may see God?s face in the eyes of another- a man at a soup kitchen, an elderly woman at a nursing facility, a child exiled to a homeless shelter.
DOOR helps groups see the face of God in the city. Through weeks and weekends in the city, participants immerse themselves in urban life, serve in community-based ministries and reflect on the message of the Psalmist:
"God is in the midst of the city" Psalm 46:5
Your group will participate in coordinated weekend and weeklong trips designed to challenge your group to "see the face of God in the city" as you spend a week or weekend listening, volunteering, and reflecting on your experiences. For groups age 13 and up from all denominations.
Participants will learn about urban life through:
* Volunteering in the community
* Participating in reflection
* Worshiping together
* Considering how faith shapes your group's responses to needs in your home community
* Discovering service as an essential, daily part of living out Christian faith
