TechMission Corps Member serves Youth at Pepsi Center in Denver
This past winter, Pastor Jim Galanaugh, YouthPartnersNet team member, laced up his sneakers and directed a basketball clinic for 695 Denver at-risk inner-city youth. Partnering with the Whiz Kids and 328 volunteers and more than 2,920 in-kind service hours, "Slam Dunk Saturday" was indeed a Slam Dunk!
Teaching the fundamentals at 12 teaching stations in the Pepsi Center, (home of the Denver Nuggets) every child was treated to participate for 22 minutes on a real NBA court. After the clinic, Rocky the mascot had the crowd of over 2,000 pumped up for the game that night. The Nuggets donated 2,000 tickets to the children and the coaches/mentors. This was the fifth year of serving at-risk youth in Denver.
