Faith In Action Volunteer Group

Description
Working on Staten Island with people who are homeless, hungry, and poor. Primary work is in a soup kitchen and food pantry. Opportunities also include helping in a family shelter, a drop-in center for homeless, and other sites. Groups come year round from one to two days to a full week. Educational seminars about HIV/AIDS and homelessness are conducted for the groups. General information is provided and a discussion facilitated by an experienced member of Project Hospitality. Project Hospitality clients are brought in to share with groups their personal stories and struggles with these issues.
Requirements
Volunteers will work in an urban environment with the opportunity to meet many people affected by HIV/AIDS, poverty, drug/alcohol addiction, mental illness, and homelessness. An open mind and humble spirit are helpful in nurturing these interactions.
