Good for daily reading

I like it for my daily reading before I start the day. I don't recommend it if your some kind of scholar or a translation buff, it's modern and therefore open to differing opinions about it. I happen to be an addict and alcoholic and I like the way the notes, insights and commentary are intertwined with the text in a way someone like me could relate to. It's practical and useful in a personal spiritual growth way. Jesus is my higher power so I am biased in my viewpoints. It's worth the money and more if your looking for a Bible thats kind of like a huge book of daily meditations for recovery and one thats easy to read and understand without a theological degree.
Recovery for the Soul, Even the Perfect Ones

Approaching this as a niche bible is wrong. Approaching this as a bible only for drug and alcohol addicts is equally wrong. Instead, approach this bible as a constant companion in pointing out the rough spots in life and connecting them to the bible.
I do not like niche market bibles, and I was unsure if I would find a bible dedicated to those in recovery something more than a market scheme, but in fact, the editors of this edition have made a great effort in reaching up from the pages of this book and communicating with those who are going through life with a different path than those of us who manage without addictions (that we know of.) I have spent several weeks in reviewing the added material and found that unlike many other devotional bibles, this one reaches across the intended audience and provides something more than the standard fare. It provides an honest approach to such things as sex, drugs, alcohol, destructive behavior and those things which contribute to, even from the outside, these things.
Each book is given an introduction, with summaries, in narrative form what the book is about, stating it in terms which are applicable to a recovery lifestyle. A common outline is given, as well as a bottom line which states the purpose, author, setting, date, and gives a key verse with key people and relationships. The dating and authorship is conservative, as to be expected. Turning the page, Recovery Themes, focusing on the book itself, are given , generally three in number. A running commentary/devotional is found at the bottom of the page, connected to the verses above. Again, all are keyed to the recovery lifestyle, to showcase the battles that others have fought, trying to cast them into the light of modern, personal, wars. Throughout several of the books, there are sections dedicated to the several steps of the different programs (indexed in the appendix of the bible) which includes a bible reading, a state goal and a devotional. Also, for many of the individual books, the authors have included reflections and insights based on the book.
The appendix includes topical indexes along with an index to the added material.
While this devotional bible is intended for an audience in recovery, it is very much one for those who need a reminder that sin is something to be recovered from as well. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to be purchased for individual use as well as one to give out to those in need. If you are going to give a bible to someone who is struggling, give this one.
Good translation, good commentaries.

This is a great Bible for a 12-step program, and I really like the NLT.
Brilliant and Wonderful Tool

Brilliant! Many of us either have battled issues like addiction, depression, co-dependency, and dysfunction ourselves, or know someone who has. The Life Recovery Bible is a New Living Translation Bible specifically focusing on these types of struggles and more. It offers many features that speak to the struggles faced by people in recovery, including, special devotionals, notes, themes and profiles. What really impressed me though, was that it really speaks to everyone, whether they are "in recovery" or not (we all need help and healing somehow). In addition to being a great personal Bible, it would be an awesome tool for ministry and outreach. I highly recommend The Life Recovery Bible.

We ALL Need Recovery!

Most of us have heard of the "Recovery Bible," but few have taken a look inside of it. I was incredibly surprised as I began to work through the pages and realized, "We're ALL in Recovery!!!" This is not a Bible just for the alcoholic or drug addict; this is a Bible designed for anyone who has sinned. So that means ALL of us. The Recovery Bible has now become my "main" study Bible. Why? Each Book of the Bible begins with a detailed "Big Picture," that presents an overview of each Book. This isn't your typical "intro" to a book of the Bible. It provides the groundwork for the reasons God has given us each particular Book of the Bible. Then there's the "Bottom Line," where you are given the overall purpose and lesson for the book. Even more informative were the detailed writings on the "characters" that played part in the Bible. Throughout each Book you are given insight as to what the characters struggled with, their weaknesses and strengths, how they came into fellowship with God, and how they came to be used by God for greater purposes. I was enthralled by the "footnotes" on each page that held priceless knowledge and insight into so many of the Scriptures.
The "Life Recovery Bible" truly "speaks." You can't help but read through one page and hear God's voice. The writers of this Bible have truly been used by God to reach a hurting world that is desperate for Him. I only wish that I had received this Bible from someone when I was starting out in my Christian walk. It is the best gift you can give to a Prodigal or someone desiring to deepen their faith. I HIGHLY recommend this Bible!
