I am impressed with 77 Creative Ways Kids can Serve. Girls and guys will love this book, as it treats kids as they should be treated: with respect and assuming they have the best interests of the planet and living beings in their hearts. And of course they do! They just need encouragement and support to reach out and help someone or something. And that is what Sondra gives them. They will find in this book so many wonderful ways to volunteer from things they can do right in their own home, to projects half a world away. How about idea 73: Give Stuffed Animals for Comfort. It is a wonderful idea and Sondra tells you exactly how to collect and donate the furry creatures. Actually now that I'm thinking about it, this is a good book for adults also, as it gives so much information on each project that you can really get started. As I said, this book is a win-win for everybody and also for the planet. Read it and pick a project! Hey, I think I'll collect tennis balls for animal shelters. Now where did we put all those old tennis balls?

This book turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to somehow get the kids in my life "involved." That was the plan. The idea was to send them a book showing them what things they can do now - while they're still kids - that can make a difference in their world. It is written for kids in a kid-friendly style, but it has great ideas that anyone can do including adults.
My nephews were looking over the book last night and they like the idea about taking paper lunch bags, decorating them, and putting inside each of them a juice box and a (imperishable) snack of some sort. Then taking the bags to a shelter for kids there to grab whenever they need an afterschool or nighttime snack. Of course, as the book instructs, a parent needs to call ahead and explain the plan before you put it into action.
I'm happy with the layout, the wording, the simplicity, and - of course - the actual ideas.
LOVE IT!
